Passport Renewal for Iranians with an Expired Passport

If you are a holder of an Iranian expired passport and  you wish to apply for a new passport or change your country of residence from Iran to Australia, please have the following documents with you when attending our office to register your application on the Mikhak website:

New Passport for Iranians without a Passport including Refugees and Asylum Seekers

If you do not currently have an Iranian passport, however, you have left Iran legally with your Iranian passport and you have entered Australia illegally as an asylum seeker or legally through a refugee program and subsequently, you have obtained your Australian permanent residency or Australian citizenship or you are currently on a temporary visa, please have the following documents ready when attending our office to register your application on the Mikhak website:

New Passport for Iranians with a Lost or Stolen Passport

If you do not currently have an Iranian passport, however, you have left Iran legally with your Iranian passport and your valid Iranian passport has been lost or stolen in Australia, please have the following documents ready when attending our office to register your application on the Mikhak website:

  • Exit permit for married women & children under 18 more info
  • National ID Card if available
  • An Australian valid visa or proof of residency more info

New passport for Iranians with a Damaged or Faulty Passport

If you have an Iranian passport, however, your valid Iranian passport has been distorted or faulty due to some reasons including burning, water damaging or tampering etc., please have the following documents ready when attending our office to register your application on the Mikhak website:

  • Exit permit for married women & children under 18 more info
  • National ID Card if available

New Passport for Iranian Children Born in Australia

Iranian children who were born in Australia are required to obtain their Iranian birth certificate (Shenasnameh) first, and then their parents should have the following documents ready when attending our office to register their children application on the Mikhak website. New passport for Non-Iranian Women Married to Iranian Citizens

Non-Iranian women with Iranian husbands are required to register their Iranian marriage first and obtain their Iranian birth certificate (Shenasnameh), and then they can apply for Iranian passport if they wish to travel to Iran. 1st Step

Booking an Appointment

If you wish to apply for a new passport, you need to book an appointment and visit our office in- person in Parramatta.

Every session could last between 1 and 1.5 hours.

Booking an appointment is mandatory as we do not provide walk-in services. To schedule an appointment, you can call us at 02 9002 5512 or you can send us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Please attend in our centre at the agreed time. In most cases, if you delay for more than 10 minutes, we need to reschedule your appointment as providing services may interfere with our other appointments.

We endeavour to finalise your application in one session.

2nd Step

Collecting Documents

Please gather the required documents listed in the relevant section on this page and make sure to bring along the originals at your appointment.

If any documents are missing or you do not have access to them, please discuss document deficiencies over the phone before attending our office as this may delay the process of your application.

3rd Step

Obtaining Tracking Code

At our appointment, we provide you with all the necessary advice on your registration at the Mikhak website and we complete all of the predefined steps about processing your application

We will upload your documents on the website; submit your application and print out the tracking code which is an essential requirement for processing your application.

4th Step

Paying the Associated Fees

Depending on the type of services you choose, we would pay the relevant governmental application fees on your behalf, and include the receipt with your application.

Last Step

Lodging the Application by Post

We attempt to finalise your application in a session with a maximum duration of 1.5 hours

Once you are at our office, we typically complete the application.

Your application will eventually be forwarded to Canberra by post for final processing and consideration.

You will be provided with the postal package tracking code; and finally, the passport will be sent to your home address directly.

Frequently Asked Questions about Iranian Passport

  • What is the specification of a passport photo ?

    The passport photo must have the following specifications:

    • 35mm to 45mm wide
    • 45mm to 50mm high.
    • Clear, focused image with no marks or 'red eye', visible shoulders
    • Face centred and looking straight at the camera; Non tilted face in any direction
    • Plain white background
    • Uniform lighting (no shadows and no reflections) with proper luminosity
    • No hats, no glasses, no jewellery
    • Women wearing Islamic Hijab
    • Less than six months old
    • Photos are endorsed in the Persian language by name & surname; date of birth & national ID Number

  • Can I apply for Iranian passport if my birth certificate (Shenasnameh), national ID card or Military service card is in Iran?

    If your birth certificate (Shenasnameh), military service or military exemption card or national ID card is in Tehran - Iran, you need to ask your relative or a nominated person to present the original documents to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Tehran and ask the ministry to forward a copy of the documents to the Iranian Embassy in Australia.

    Please make sure that your nominated person get the reference number from the authorities for sending over the documents and include it with your application.

  • Can I apply for a passport if I do not have military service card?

    If you are over 18 and the place of residence in your passport should be written " Islamic Republic of Iran" or you are over 50 years of age, you are not required to provide your military service card or your military exemption card.

  • What does an Australian valid proof of residency or visa evidence mean?

    Australian proof of residency includes any documents which show that you live in Australia.

    The documents are included but not limited to:

    • Australian Passport
    • Australian Citizenship Certificate
    • Visa Grant Letter for a temporary or permanent visa
    • Australian Travel Document

  • What does exit permit for married women & children under 18 mean ?

    According to Iranian laws, the husband should give written consent to his wife for leaving the country when applying for a passport.

    Also, children under 18 need to have written consent from their father to obtain a new passport.

    We can arrange the exit permit only if the father or husband attending at our office and signing the relevant forms.

  • I am a married woman and my husband is not in Australia, how can I obtain his written consent needed for an exit permit to renew my passport?

    If your husband is in Iran, you can ask him to go to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Tehran and give his written consent to make you eligible to apply for a new passport and/or change your place of residence to Australia as this is required according to the Iranian laws.

    Please make sure that your husband obtains the registration number of his written consent from the authorities as you need to include it with your passport application.

  • I am a married woman and my husband is not Iranian, do I need to have his written consent to get a new my passport?

    If your husband is not Iranian, you do not need his written consent to obtain a passport.

  • I am a married woman and the place of residence in my husband's passport is written "Australia", do I need to have his written consent to get a new passport?

    If you live with your husband in Australia and the place of residence of your husband in his valid passport is written "Australia", you are not required to obtain his written consent to get a new passport.

  • I am under 18 and my father is not in Australia, how can I obtain his written consent needed for an exit permit to get a passport?

    If you are under 18, you need to have written consent of your father/ paternal grandfather or your guardian to apply for an Iranian passport.

    If your father is in Iran, you can ask him to go to the Iranian Foreign Ministry in Tehran and give his written consent to make you eligible to apply for a new passport as this is required according to the Iranian laws.

  • I am over 15 and my photo is not attached to my birth certificate (Shenasnameh), can I apply for a new Iranian passport?

    If you are over 15, and your birth certificate (Shenasnameh) does not have your photo or you do not have your national ID card, you are required to get your photo stamped to your birth certificate, then apply for a passport.

  • What is Mikhak website?

    Mikhak is the Persian abbreviation of the "Integrated Consular Services Management System," an online service platform where you can create, submit and manage applications pertaining to your Iranian citizenship matters.

    The application submitted will be administered by the respective consular section of the Iranian embassy in your designated country.

    Mikhak is the front door of all electronic consular services including passport application, marriage or divorce registration, granting a power of attorney, authentication of documents, etc.

    Using Mikhak you can:

    • lodge an application for a citizenship service including a new passport or birth certificate, etc;
    • track status of your application;
    • provide supporting documents;
    • modify your application;
    • update your personal information.
  • Do I have to use the services of your centre to do my Iranian citizenship matters?

    As applications relating to Iranian citizenship matters including passport, granting power of attorney or registering your marriage et must be submitted electronically and online, some Iranian citizens may find it very difficult to enter the details correctly on the "Mikhak" online system and may require advice and assistance. We can help them to get the request properly entered and recorded in the system and lodge their applications.

    However, in any case, if you think that you have access to the relevant information and have enough confidence, you can lodge the relevant applications directly by yourself.

  • What services do you provide ?

    In brief, we will:

  • Do you legally represent me for my matter ?

    It is a standard practice in Australia where people can nominate a person to represent them or choose a lawyer to handle their paperwork or nominate a person as their representative to Centrelink, telecommunication companies, etc.

    Unfortunately, there is no legal mechanism for us to take direct responsibility for applicants' cases in citizenship matters pertaining to them such as the issuance of an Iranian passport, Iranian identity card, etc.

    The services that we offer is to prepare and lodge your application per the requirement of the Iranian legislation, however, we are unable to legally represent your matter.

  • Do I need to make an appointment to discuss about my citizenship matter?

    Yes. Based on our experience it may take between one to one and a half hours to complete a task related to an Iranian citizenship matter and making an appointment is strongly recommended.

    Unfortunately, we do not provide walk-in services.  

  • Do I need to physically attend in your centre to complete my Iranian citizenship matters?

    In most cases, our assistance requires your physical attendance at the office, but we will advise you in advance if your matter does not require you to be in the office.

  • Do you protect my privacy and my personal information?

    We take seriously the issue of privacy.

    We will not, under any circumstance, allow your private and confidential information to be handed to a third party unless that is required under Australian law.
